Since moving to Chicagoland in 2017, I have found some incredible places in downtown Chicago for engagement sessions! While shooting downtown, I tend to ask couples what they are wanting more of. Parks? The Skyline? Indoor? From here, I send them my favorite location suggestions and we build an amazing session plan!
Below is a list of 10 of my favorite locations for Chicago Engagement Sessions!
1. Chicago’s Field Museum
The steps of the Chicago Field Museum make for an incredible engagement session back drop! If you’re looking for something different, yet timeless, then you should absolutely consider this natural history museum. The iconic stairs and stature of the columns will give your session a classic look and still give you dozens of options for bright, more compacted portraits!
2. Lincoln Park
There are so many fantastic photo op locations in Lincoln Park! Within the park you can walk through the zoo for a more lifestyle session, pose in front of the skyline and visit the Nature Boardwalk to the Chicago landmark of the honeycomb bridge. Lincoln Park is the most popular location if you are wanting your session to highlight the iconic features of Chicago.
3. West Loop Neighborhood
The West Loop Neighborhood is a great walking engagement session. Here, we walk through the city and discover nooks and crannies of more Urban scenes like staircases, alley ways, locals bars and outdoor restaurants and walkways. The West Loop is perfect for a more casual couple looking for more candid photos and restaurant/bar photos.
4. Chicago Riverwalk
The Riverwalk is a location with a ton of skylines and iconic Chicago views. Here we can stay high or low, taking photos along the river or on the bridges overlooking the water on Lower Michigan Ave. One of the best things about going to the Riverwalk for your Chicago Engagement session is the walking! Walking allows us to keep conversation and discover new places to shoot along the way!
5. Promontory Point
Promontory Point is, in my opinion, one of the most undervalued location for engagement sessions! The point is a bit more south but 100% worth the drive! It’s a bit more secluded, gives a fantastic skyline and a great park scene! Promontory Point has walkways and an indoor venue used primarily for weddings.
6. Union Station
Union Station is the perfect place for the travelers and fans of all things classic! The station’s main features are the iconic stairways with brass railings, the wooden benches and the floor to ceiling columns. You may need to fight traffic a bit but the images are worth the wait! There are so many fun things you can do here and the photos always turn out looking timeless.
7. The Skyline Off Of Theater On The Lake
This is a proud hidden gem that I stumbled upon with Brandon. Right beside Theater On The Lake is a lakeside stairway + activity path. I love this area because you actually have to descend pretty far to get directly next to the water. It’s private yet gives you an incredible view of the city. The only downside is that you cannot park at Theater On The Lake. I suggest Zoo parking or street parking!
8. Montrose Beach
This is an option that I love for dog owners! There are so many great areas of Montrose Beach to go, play run around with your pooch and capture beautiful portraits! This is one of my most preferred summer session locations!
9. Lincoln Park Conservatory
The Lincoln Park Conservatory is such a great location, regardless of season! The area is always lush, warm and full of color! If you are wanting a lot of portraits with a colorful background, this is absolutely the place to go! Depending on the time of the day, it’s usually fairly quite and private too!
10. Bond Chapel University
The was introduced to Joseph Bond Chapel University through a couple I shot when I first moved to the city and have feel in love with it ever since! The university is more south of Chicago near Promontory Point and has beautiful ivy covered walls and wooden doors. I love this location for fall sessions!
I’m ready to make this official!
