This is for all of the brides who have a sweet spot in their heart for their dad. I have to admit that Daddy/Daughter first looks make me a little teary. I lost my dad at the age of 21, before I became a wedding photographer. My dad was the best man in my life and I cannot picture my future wedding without him. Seeing Daddy/Daughter first looks touch me so deeply. They are a unique way I get to serve my couples and love on them and their families.
For a lot of dads, this is when everything feels real and it hits him… “My baby girl is getting MARRIED!” These are precious moments to photograph and I highly encourage any daddy’s girl to make time in their timeline for this moment. It doesn’t take long at all! The hardest part is making sure dad shows up on time! If dad doesn’t show up on time, the whole timeline can get thrown off, or we’ll have to skip the daddy/ daughter first look. Another sweet idea I’ve seen is having the father of the bride escort the bride to her first look!
Tips on Making This Moment As Sweet As Can Be
Like I said before, the biggest thing is making sure dad shows up on time! Daddy/Daughter first looks are very similar to First Looks between couples. I will usually place dad looking away and have my bride approach him and tap him on the shoulder, letting him know to turn around to see his baby girl. The trick here is to 100% live in the moment. Don’t worry about cameras, about looking a certain way. This is your daddy. Breathe this moment in. Take your time. Embrace every second of it!
A Step Further
If you want to take your Daddy/Daughter moment a step further, there are a ton of sweet ideas! Think about presenting your dad with a photo album of you or you and him at the first look. He can browse it before or after your first look. Maybe thinking about having your favorite song playing in the background. Give your dad a note written by you to him for him to read before seeing you. Or vise versa!
There are so many heartfelt options for this moment. And how amazing is it that you’re capturing it on camera? There is no wrong way to do a Daddy/Daughter first look. The most important thing is that you savor this moment in your heart forever and always.
