Summer wedding season in the south is known for two things. First, being beautiful! And second, being hot and humid! Two things you definitely want to be aware of as you begin searching for your summer wedding venue in Richland County.
Maybe you’re a bride in search of a venue with a lawn ceremony option. Or you know you want to have a covered porch or overhang option in case we experience summer showers on your wedding day. Or perhaps you are looking for a wedding venue close to downtown Columbia, SC to make your commute to the reception held in the Vista easier for you and your guests.
Whatever type of summer wedding venue you’re looking, this list is a wonderful place to begin your search. Below are my top favorite summer wedding venues all in Columbia, SC or nearby.

701 Whaley is a restored historical building located downtown Columbia that houses rental spaces not only for weddings but for office space, community events, work lofts and more. This location is great if couples are looking for a more modern warehouse atmosphere. The building has a lot of natural light and washed cement walls. If couples are not looking for an indoor ceremony, 701 Whaley makes for a great reception only location as well.
1208 Washington Place
1208 Washington Place is located in the center of downtown Columbia and is walking distance to many areas such as the State House and that Main St restaurant strip. A really cool feature of this venue is that it was originally the very first National Bank and still contains the original bank vault door as shown on its website. This venue is great for couples looking for a more modern feel and enjoys historical buildings. 1208 Washington Place has a ton of natural light, more of a ballroom atmosphere and even has a rooftop terrace for an outdoor cocktail hour or reception.
The Lace House
The Lace House in Columbia, SC’s hidden gem. This is a location that is near and dear to my heart because I was able to serve as a bridesmaid here a few times in college. This venue is your one-stop-shop for wedding venues.
Located in downtown Columbia not the Governor’s Mansion estate, this property is hidden away by its large perimeter and hosts everything from the bridal party getting ready in the morning to your reception on the large house patio area. The three-story house is over 9,000 sqft, was built in 1854 and has been completely renovated to become one of Columbia’s best wedding locations.
The Lace House is perfect for couples wanting the entire day to take place in one location, wanting an outdoor ceremony and the luxury of guests being able to go inside and outside as they please during the reception. I cannot recommend this location enough!
The Milestone at Adams Pond
The Milestone at Adams Pond is located outside of Downtown Columbia on Bluff Rd. This property is owned by Southern Way Catering and dates all the way back to the 1700s. The historical venue is only 5 miles from downtown, has interior space for the wedding party to get ready, outdoor setup options for the ceremony, has a screened porch (perfect for escaping summer mosquitos) and can host up to 350 guests. This is another location perfect for couples who want to stay in the same place from start to finish and who want an outdoor ceremony.

Located in West Columbia, Springdale House and Gardens is your historic backyard wedding venue. The Mansion includes a grand ballroom, upstairs suites for both the bride and groom, a grand sun porch and large backyard garden for your ceremony. This venue can house an outdoor ceremony and an indoor/outdoor reception.

The house has two covered porches and one open-air porch, three rooms for the wedding party, a Bridal suite with a private restroom, a black and white tiled sunroom and of course, an outdoor ceremony area centered around its infamous gardens. This location can hold up to 350 guests and is perfect for couples looking for a quaint, backyard wedding.
Robert Mills Carriage House and Gardens
Robert Mills Carriage House and Gardens is another wonderful back yard wedding venues. The property is a part of Columbia’s Historical society and has beautiful fountains, gardens, gravel drives, and benches all throughout. The Carriage House is located at 1616 Blanding St, downtown Columbia and has an indoor and outdoor capacity of 400. Inside the house, guest can marvel over the mansion’s exposed beams and large barn-style doors.
Gardens of the Hampton-Preston Mansion
Next door to Robert Mills Carriage House is the Hampton-Preston Mansion. This mansion has a huge front lawn perfect for signature photos and a garden tucked away behind the property. This is a fantastic property for those hot and humid Columbia months because of all the live oak trees providing coverage. A few added bonuses of the Hampton-Preston Mansion include the covered gazebo, water fountain and wooden arches over the walkways.
The River Road and Jasmine Houses and Gardens
The River Road and Jasmine Houses and Gardens is a fantastic wedding venue for both spring and summer!
